Blog about Twitter

Post a blog entry with the above title. How does a Twitter discussion compare to a BlackBoard Discussion? To an in-class discussion?

Twitter is interesting to say the least. Comparing it to blackboard, kind of makes blackboard feel a little bland. The reason for this is simply because there are many people that can see your discussion. Many people can see your responses, thus things aren't as private. The world is at the fingers of the user. At the basic level, hashtags are used to make things easily visible. In comparison to in-class, although twitter has more exposure, an in-class discussion may be more felt. When a person is in a classroom with others, the energy, body language, tone of voice is felt. Sometimes the person with the louder voice is heard. There is no hiding behind a keyboard with an inclass discussion.

Blogs vs. Wikis

Compare and contrast blogs and wikis. Comment on the importance of convergence in today's networked world. How can blogs be used for collaboration? Can you think of a new use for a wiki that has not been done yet? Cite at least 2 of the assigned readings Convergence is very important in today's world. Something can easily become obsolete if it doesnt keep up with the times. Convergence of two things can be a plus. It can bring about the benefits of two worlds and take away boundaries. A blog is basically a website that is maintained by one or a team of contributors. It will have a collection of pages. Most of the time, these are usually grouped around a specific topic. A wiki is another type of website that us a number of web pages that are kind of linked together. Best used as a knowledge base. Navigation mainly with the help of categories and tags. Navigation mainly through search and in-text hyperlinks. Most popular engine is WordPress. Advice to the College

You are hired by the College to use new media to improve the College. What are some suggestions you would make using new media?

There are many things a college can do to incorporate media to in turn, help the college. 

• Instagram to promote events happening and future events.
• Facebook to create pages to invite people to the college events.
• They can use the online media for interactive polling. This can make it easier to get a gist of what is expected of the school and how to make it better.
• Using google hangouts can make it easier for students to get extra tutoring from teachers. It can reach many instead of one in a single session.

These alone can make a big difference in a the school and in the classroom.

What are different ways these virtual worlds can be used? What are the pros and cons? Be specific. How do virtual worlds foster creativity? What do you think the future of virtual worlds will look like?

Virtual worlds

While too early to tell the future of virtual worlds, we currently have Minecraft. Minecraft is a virtual world that provides especially children with a space to build and create things in a lego-like environment. Virtual worlds though, can in the future be used to experience things that haven’t been experienced before. It can act as a training ground for militia missions and other things of that nature.  Things like this can be considered a pro. There may at some point be an addiction for some people to virtual reality. This is a clear mishap of the invention. I think a lengthy band will have to be created to ensure society doesn’t collapse and humanity doesn’t self-destruct.
