The Next New Thing

Suggest a new type of "new media" that doesn't currently exist. Describe it.

I suggest there will be 3d video chat once 3d holograms come into play with the next few iphones. I feel like 3d has to be the next big thing. Instead of images on instagram, there will be beams of light projecting the situation. thus will be posts, video chats, events etc.

Social Net'g

Create a new post on your blog with the above title. In your post, answer the following questions.
What are some ways (corporate and otherwise) that these technologies can be used? What are the benefits of these technologies to society? Be specific. Is there a "dark side"? Make sure to include your opinion of the way these technologies might evolve in the future.
Cite at least 2 of the assigned readings.

Social networking has many uses and benefits to society. Users can portray themselves in a good way, making people when they meet them view them accordingly. Social networks allows the meeting of new people and can help with the reaching in contact of old people.  Social networks can provide news to people even more fast than news stations can cover it sometimes. Law officials tend to use social networks to crack down on criminals. Social networks can serve as a platform to help students discuss homework. If used appropriately, users can befriend get careers from an appropriate profile.

As far as the dark side, Social media has been known to spread false and negative information. They also often lack privacy, enabling government intrusions. Students who use social media too much tend to have lower grades. It can cause unnecessary problems in relationships as well. Social networks cause people to be prone to stalkers and other creeps. Social Networks can also harm job stability. Many people end up having less face to face interactions due to social networking.

I think its possible that there will be alot of group video chat as social media goes. I think visuals have to become more intense and dynamic. I'm talking three dimension here. Intense marketing will probably take place as well. i'm sure with good comes the bad, there will be more privacy risk too.

Social Networking Sites

Create a new post on your blog with the above title. In your post, discuss the following.
Visit Facebook, Twitter - and TWO other social networking site of your choosing. Compare your impressions of these 4 sites. Note that you probably should register and log in to get the complete picture.

Facebook. Facebook is very interesting. It is like the king of social media as we know it. It acts as the largest platform. It sports the ability to create events, create posts, pictures and images that will appear on others live feed. Each user has a wall where posts they have made will be collected and viewed. There is the ability to poke people which i used to do to girls to let them know i like them. Private messages can be sent as well. Facebook is everything you can ask for as a social media platform.

Twitter is similar to facebook. Each person has a wall where their posts will be stored a can be viewed. Tweets must be within 140 characters. Images and short videos can be shared as well. If you ever want to know what someone has to say, go on their twitter.

Instagram is a notable social media site as well. Instagram allows the following of users and users can follow back. You have the ability to like pictures. It is a place where mostly memes, images, photos and minute long videos are posted. Its great for models and marketing.

 Periscope is a new interesting social media. The main feature is to simply live stream while users across the world can watch comment and like.

https://www.wired.com/2005/01/bittorrent-2/

According to the article, Bram Cohen's approach is faster and more efficient than traditional P2P networking. A single source file within a group of BitTorrent users, called a swarm spreads around pieces of film or videogame or tv show so that everyone has a chunk to share. After the initial downloading, those pieces are the uploaded to other needy users in the swarm. the rules require every downloader to also do some uploading. Thus the more peoeple trying to download, the faster everything is uploaded. Soon enough, the swarm has shared all the pieces and everyone has their own complete source.

Creativity

Create a new post on your blog with the above title. In your post, cite at least one of the assigned readings and discuss how new media fosters creativity.

Creativity, creativity can be a dynamic force and new media fosters it. Instagram, snapchat, facebook, twitter, youtube, all of these social medias are outlets for people to let their creativity harvest. This outlet has allowed many youtubers to become rich, instagram people to become models and twitter-ers to get tweeting jobs

OLD vs. NEW ...
Newspapers -> online versions of newspapers
Books -> eBooks; Google library scanning project
Music -> mp3 files,
Film -> YouTube; amateur video distribution networks
Art -> fractals (recursive art)
Photography -> flickr
Games ->
Broadcast ->
Audio ->

This is all very interesting though. It seems like this stuff has always been there in some shape or form, only now it is easier to have access to. I think in this day in age, if people so desired to let their creativity flourish in the right venue, they can be highly noted for it and even famous if desired.

Privacy & Confidentiality

In this post, discuss how the issues of privacy and confidentiality are related to new media.

There are definitely issues of privacy related to new media. Every time you search online for the best restaurant deal, share news with Facebook friends, or tweet to your followers, your audience is bigger than you may know.
Vast amounts of information are being collected by private companies  - including google, microsoft, facebook and twitter. Using location services on your phone, when posts are created on facebook and instagram alike, tons of people at that point have access to where you were. Many websites and applications are storing user information. Suddenly before you know it, they know you better than you know yourself.

Blog about Twitter

Post a blog entry with the above title. How does a Twitter discussion compare to a BlackBoard Discussion? To an in-class discussion?

Twitter is interesting to say the least. Comparing it to blackboard, kind of makes blackboard feel a little bland. The reason for this is simply because there are many people that can see your discussion. Many people can see your responses, thus things aren't as private. The world is at the fingers of the user. At the basic level, hashtags are used to make things easily visible. In comparison to in-class, although twitter has more exposure, an in-class discussion may be more felt. When a person is in a classroom with others, the energy, body language, tone of voice is felt. Sometimes the person with the louder voice is heard. There is no hiding behind a keyboard with an inclass discussion.
